Kingston upon Thames combines a busy retail and university town centre with one of South West London's largest regeneration programmes. The Cambridge Road Estate redevelopment is a multi-phase residential scheme that will run for years and generates continuous demand for groundworkers, RC frame trades, bricklayers, carpenters and finishing trades. Around it, Kingston University's campuses at Penrhyn Road and Kingston Hill produce a steady stream of education fit-out and refurbishment work.
The town centre is genuinely difficult to build in. It is bounded by the Thames, the one-way gyratory and a large pedestrianised retail core, so deliveries are heavily windowed, compounds are small and out-of-hours working is common. Riverside sites at Canbury and along the Portsmouth Road add flood-plain and access constraints. Operatives need to be reliable on early starts and comfortable with escorted plant movements through public areas.
Beyond the centre, Surbiton, New Malden, Chessington and Tolworth carry different work again — Tolworth and Chessington bring industrial and logistics activity along the A3 and A240, while Surbiton and New Malden are largely residential extension, conversion and small new build. New Malden in particular has a high volume of rear extension and basement work with tight neighbour management.
