01What we supply

Bricklayers for live sites, not a database of CVs

Hard Hat supplies bricklayers to subcontractors, SME builders and principal contractors working on Tier 1 and Tier 2 sites across London and the M25. That means single trowels to cover a shortfall, matched pairs on a scaffold lift, or a full gang with its own hod carriers and forklift cover.

Most brickwork requirements reach us late — a gang has walked, a facing brick delivery has landed early, or a handover date has moved.

We do not set a minimum order. One bricklayer for three days is a legitimate booking and gets the same vetting, the same insurance cover and the same compliance pack as a twelve-man gang on a six-month new-build.

Every bricklayer is checked before they reach your gate

Vetting is done before we put someone forward, not after you have inducted them. The evidence sits in our compliance pack and we will send it for your PQQ.

CSCS card verified

Card checked against the CSCS Smart Check register, not accepted as a photo. Blue Skilled Worker as the baseline for a trowel.

NVQ Level 2 Trowel Occupations

We confirm the qualification behind the card, and hold a copy for your PQQ pack.

Right to work

Original documents or share code checked in person, with expiry dates tracked so nobody works past a visa end date.

Two site references

Contacted directly — usually the last site manager or gang ganger, asked specifically about output and quality of face work.

Trade test on request

For facing brick or feature work we can arrange a short practical or ask for photographs of recent elevations.

What to tell us when you call

    Facing brick, blockwork, or both — and the brick type and bond if it is facing work.

    Rate basis: price work per thousand, or day rate.

    Gang size wanted, and whether you need hod carriers or a forklift driver with them.

    Scaffold status — is the lift up and handed over, or are the trowels waiting on it?

Hiring bricklayers — frequently asked

Yes. A typical gang we mobilise is four to six trowels with one or two hod carriers, and we can add a forklift or telehandler operator to keep materials moving. Gangs that have worked together before are kept together where we can — output on a gang that knows each other is materially higher than four strangers on the same lift.

We do. Price work per thousand needs the brick type, bond, lift heights and quantities up front so the gang can price it properly. If those are still moving we normally start on a day rate and convert once the elevations are settled.

Yes. We hold £10m Employer's Liability, £5m Public Liability and £2m Professional Indemnity, and we can issue the full compliance pack — insurance certificates, policies, CSCS evidence and right-to-work process — for your PQQ or supply chain onboarding.
