01What we supply

Carpenters for live sites, not a database of CVs

Hard Hat supplies carpenters and site joiners to fit-out contractors, main contractors, housebuilders and SME builders across London and the M25. First fix, second fix, formwork and shuttering, doors and ironmongery, and finishing joiners for high-specification work — we place to the specific stage you are at, not to a generic 'carpenter' label.

Carpentry is where fit-out programmes are usually won or lost, and the requirement tends to arrive as a step change: a floor releases, a snagging deadline lands, or a second fix has to be doubled up to hit handover.

One carpenter or a full team with a working foreman. No minimum order, and a one-week booking is vetted to the same standard as a six-month placement.

02What you get

Every carpenter is checked before they reach your gate

Vetting is done before we put someone forward, not after you have inducted them. The evidence sits in our compliance pack and we will send it for your PQQ.

CSCS card verified

Checked live against the register — Blue Skilled Worker as the baseline, Gold for advanced craft or supervisory placements.

NVQ Level 2/3 Site Carpentry or Bench Joinery

We confirm the qualification behind the card and record which pathway — the two produce very different carpenters.

Stage matched to your programme

We separate 1st fix, 2nd fix, formwork and finishing joinery on our records and place against the stage you name.

Right to work

Originals or share code checked in person, with expiry tracking.

Tools and references

We confirm the operative arrives with their own hand tools and cordless kit, and call references about finish quality and snag rates.

04Before you call

What to tell us when you call

Six answers and we can price it and start searching on the same call.

  1. 01

Stage: 1st fix, 2nd fix, formwork/shuttering, doors and ironmongery, or finishing joinery.

  2. 02

For fire doors, whether third-party installer certification is required.

  3. 03

Whether the work is metal stud and MF ceilings, timber, or both.

  4. 04

Team size, and whether you need a working foreman to run the front.

  5. 05

Programme stage and handover date — this determines who we send, not just how many.

  6. 06

Site postcode, hours, parking or nearest station, and induction arrangements.

05Trades that go together

Most sites need more than one trade

We staff the whole package rather than a single line on your requirement, so one call covers the gang.

06Questions from hirers

Hiring carpenters — frequently asked

Yes, and this is worth being explicit about at the point of booking. Third-party installer certification is increasingly a contractual requirement post-Building Safety Act, and if your specification calls for it we will only put forward carpenters whose certification we have seen and copied for your records.

A significant one. First fix is about speed, setting out and working to structure; second fix is about finish, tolerance and snag-free work in front of a client. We record which stage each operative is strongest at and place accordingly rather than treating carpentry as one pool.

Yes. On teams of four or more it is usually worth it — a working foreman who sets out, sequences and checks the work in front of them will save you more than the rate difference in rework alone.

Yes. Hand tools and cordless kit are the operative's own; site power tools, consumables and access equipment remain yours.
