01What we supply

Carpenters for Reading and the Thames Valley

The Thames Valley carpentry market is split between volume housing and commercial fit-out. On the housing side, plot-based first and second fix runs to a repeating specification, and carpenters here are typically used to price work per plot with a site manager checking against a standard build guide rather than a bespoke drawing set.

The commercial and data centre work along the M4 needs a different profile — partitions, doorsets, plant room joinery and access provisions, often to a tight inspection regime with hold points. We would put a different operative on that than on a plot run, and we will ask which you have before putting anybody forward.

Timber frame is more common here than inside the M25, and frame erection is its own trade. If you need frame carpenters rather than fit-out joiners, tell us — the two pools barely overlap and the erection crews book up well ahead of a delivery date.

02What you get

Every carpenter is checked before they reach your gate

Vetting is done before we put someone forward, not after you have inducted them. The evidence sits in our compliance pack and we will send it for your PQQ.

CSCS card verified

Checked live against the register — Blue Skilled Worker as the baseline, Gold for advanced craft or supervisory placements.

NVQ Level 2/3 Site Carpentry or Bench Joinery

We confirm the qualification behind the card and record which pathway — the two produce very different carpenters.

Stage matched to your programme

We separate 1st fix, 2nd fix, formwork and finishing joinery on our records and place against the stage you name.

Right to work

Originals or share code checked in person, with expiry tracking.

Tools and references

We confirm the operative arrives with their own hand tools and cordless kit, and call references about finish quality and snag rates.

07Questions from hirers

Hiring carpenters — frequently asked

It is a separate and smaller pool from our fit-out carpenters, so give us more notice than the standard 48 hours. Tell us the frame supplier and the delivery dates and we will build a crew around the erection sequence.

Yes, and this is worth being explicit about at the point of booking. Third-party installer certification is increasingly a contractual requirement post-Building Safety Act, and if your specification calls for it we will only put forward carpenters whose certification we have seen and copied for your records.

A significant one. First fix is about speed, setting out and working to structure; second fix is about finish, tolerance and snag-free work in front of a client. We record which stage each operative is strongest at and place accordingly rather than treating carpentry as one pool.

Yes. On teams of four or more it is usually worth it — a working foreman who sets out, sequences and checks the work in front of them will save you more than the rate difference in rework alone.

Yes. Hand tools and cordless kit are the operative's own; site power tools, consumables and access equipment remain yours.
